Firefly 6

Annotating & marking work

Add your feedback and comments to a student's submission, then give them a grade or mark.

When you get an assignment back from a student, you can annotate it and mark it as necessary. Learn how to use Firefly's annotation tools and about the different ways to give marks, grades or feedback to your students, so they can do better on their next task.

  1. In the tab bar, select Tasks.

  2. Choose a task to mark.
  3. Select the Task Responses tab.

The circled number in the tab indicates the number of unread responses for that task. If there's no number displayed, then you're up to date!

  4. Choose a student.
  5. Select View File to annotate the student's work.
  6. In the annotation toolbar, choose a tool. You can choose from the following:

    Write freehand
    Draw a rectangle
    Draw a circle
    Add new text
    Highlight existing text
    Underline existing text
    Strike-through existing text
    Add a note

The selected tool will be highlighted in grey. In this example, we're using the type tool.

  7. Tap the area of the document you want to add the annotation to, then type your comment. Tap the document again to stop using the tool.

You can change the font size and colour of the text by using the highlight existing text tool.
  8. OPTIONAL Move the annotation around the document by selecting the highlight existing text tool. Tap once to select it, then drag and drop it to the desired location.

If you need to undo a change to your annotation, select the single left arrow in the annotation toolbar.

  9. When you've finished adding your annotations, select Save.
  10. Select Add Mark, Grade or Feedback.
  11. Enter a mark. The assessment format you selected when you created the task is prepopulated.

  12. OPTIONAL Add some feedback.
  13. When you've finished, select Save Mark. Your mark is saved.
  14. To share your annotated file and mark with your student, select Send Responses to 5 Students.

The task history is updated with your changes and the student is notified.
