Firefly 6

What's new?

We ship a new version of Firefly frequently. Details of the new features, bug fixes and other improvements in each release can be found in the Firefly changelogs.

What's new?

  • By default, administrators only see the tasks they set or co-own in the task list. They can select other teachers from the filters list to see their tasks. 

What have we fixed?

  • Teachers at locally hosted schools can select all other teachers as a co-owner as expected.

  • Teachers can assign students to an existing task as expected.

  • Tasks without an assessment type no longer have a default assessment type set.

  • Users can leave the password field empty when modifying users and not receive a 'Password does not meet the validation criteria' error.
  • Form report bar charts now have the bars proportional to the results. For example, a result of 1 is 10% the size of a result of 10.
  • If a teacher copies a page to a task description with multiple choice questions that have answers selected to show in random order, those questions are now correctly shown in a random order in the task description.

What's new?

  • Nothing new this release.

What have we fixed?

  • It now takes less time to export full responses to CSV from a form page.
  • Students are now notified that a task had been edited if a teacher changes any of the following values: title, start date, due date, where a file is required, assessment type, the overall mark out of for assignments with a mark or mark & grade, description, and attachments.
  • To prevent long loading times, the Firefly for Teachers app only downloads the tasks if the teacher set them or is a co-owner for them.
  • When viewing a task on a mobile browser, the description scrolls as expected. 
  • The email that parents use to log into Firefly appears as the home email address on the Contact Details form.

What's new?

  • Teachers can add co-owners when setting a task. These co-owners can edit, copy, view and mark the shared task, which can help teachers collaborate across classes or departments.
  • When creating success criteria for a task, teachers can now add levels to the criteria. These levels can help teachers clarify different types of achievement and guide students when they complete their assignments. When marking, teachers can select the appropriate level for each criterion to measure the student's level of achievement. 
  • To prevent confusion, teachers can no longer set the 'Mark Out Of' field to zero (0) when setting a task
  • When setting a task, the tick box that determines if a task is shown on the Parent Portal or in the markbook will reflect what the teacher selected for the last task they set on that computer or device. 

What have we fixed?

  • We've updated the wording for the reports section of a student's profile to reflect which academic year the report is from for Australian schools.
  • The link to the Help Centre when using a CSV upload now goes to the correct page.
  • When users select a link to the resources section but aren't signed into Firefly, they are now always prompted to log in instead of seeing a 403 error.
  • Maximum marks in the markbook no longer incorrectly appear as -1 if success criteria aren't enabled.

What's new?

  • Firefly has increased account security by requiring users to choose a stronger password when it is set for the first time and any time it is reset.

What have we fixed?

  • If a page has questions that appear next to each other, the submit button appears as expected when the page is copied to a task description.
  • Section pages using the Melody theme reflect the navigation item colour correctly.
  • Submissions to worksheets take less time.
  • The planner preview section appears in the default layout for new dashboards instead of the timetable section.
  • Users trying to log in after downloading a resource from an external source no longer see a 'Request Blocked' page.
  • Increased security for script tags embedded in a page URL.
  • Releasing marks and feedback to students from the tasks page takes less time.
  • Emails are sent as expected when a page is recommended to thousands of users.

What have we fixed?

  • If a form question is edited, the submissions to the original question now appear within the exported responses report.
  • Teachers can remove files they have attached to task submissions as expected.
  • Parents can't submit worksheets when viewing their child's worksheet submission.
  • Students no longer receive a push notification when teachers delete a draft task.
  • Parents without a home address in iSAMS are now imported into Firefly.
  • The loading icon is the correct colour in Internet Explorer when saving a task.
  • When marking a task as complete, the field in the Confirm as Complete window is now labelled 'Comment'.
  • When teachers create a task on the Firefly for Teachers app using 'Overall grade' as the assessment type, the web version no longer displays a mark of -1/0.

  • When users who don't have permission to view one news category on a news story page add a different news category to that page, the first news category is no longer lost.

What have we fixed?

  • Bulk archiving tasks now takes less time.
  • The lightbulb updates are working as expected.
  • When setting a task in a small screen, the fields are no longer obscured by the 'Help' button.
  • Form submission notification emails now contain the name of the form.
  • The 'View this submission online' link in the 'Submitted a form needing your approval on Firefly' email notification takes users to the completed submission as expected.
  • We've clarified that unticking the 'Send a copy to email' option when setting a task means push notifications won't be received in the student, parent and teacher apps.
  • We have changed the subject of the account activation emails to make the action required more clear to users.
  • When annotating a file, teachers don't lose written feedback if they select outside of the marks and feedback box.
  • Users can remove messages in the web app when they have been read in the native apps.
  • For schools using SAML login, the dashboard link on the SAML error page now goes to correct dashboard.
  • For schools with Progresso integration, the Your Students and Your Classes lists in the set a task workflow are now populated as expected.

What have we fixed?

  • If a form includes a structured data section, responses to that section are included in the email notification as expected. 

  • The correct 'Mark out of' is displayed in the markbook after a worksheet submission mark is edited.

  • We've made several security improvements. To ensure security, now only administrators can embed custom-made forms using the '<form>' tag into Firefly pages. Non-administrators can't submit responses to any of these forms that use the '<form>' tag and are embedded in Firefly pages. These forms might be generated by a third party or built specifically by the school. If your embed code contains the '<form>' tag, try finding an alternative embed code that uses an '<iframe>' tag.

What's new?

  • Teachers can now choose how to assess success criteria for a task separately from how the overall task is assessed.

What have we fixed?

  • The number of unread responses icon on task list page updates after a response is read by the teacher.
  • Teachers can now only view their current classes in the class filter to minimise confusion when classes have the same name. 
  • We've made some security fixes.
  • For schools with Schoolbase integration, the reception year category contains members even when the year identity is 0.
  • Students can scroll down in task descriptions on mobile browsers as expected.
  • Firefly has updated the method we use to access pupil photos in iSAMS to match changes implemented by iSAMS. 
  • Administrators who aren't part of a staff group can now see tasks.

What have we fixed?

  • SIMS Parent Portal integration now uses the same rules for email contact details as for the user list.
  • Users logged in to multiple Google accounts can upload Google docs to tasks or pages as expected.
  • RSS feeds now work as expected.
  • Selecting 'Complete the Questions' or 'View Description' on a task takes the students to the questions or descriptions as expected on Internet Explorer11.
  • The file title appears when editing a navigation section for a page as expected.
  • Search terms must now be at least three characters long to improve search performance.
  • The 'View submissions' option takes users to the relevant web page regardless of SSL settings.
  • For schools with PASS integration, we no longer pull prospective parents into Firefly.

What's new?

  • Teachers can filter their task list by draft, set and all as radio buttons.
  • Teachers can now view the number of unread student responses for each task on their task list.
  • Teachers can select several tasks from their tasks list and delete them together.
  • Teachers can now leave the 'mark out of' field blank when setting a task.
  • Teachers can now edit the 'mark out of' field at any time from the Set task, Edit task or Task responses screens.
  • Teachers are now able to assess student work using success criteria. Schools need to contact Support have this feature turned on.
  • For schools using SAML login, clicking Change password now takes the user to the identity provider change password screen if the URL is included in the Firefly.config file.

What have we fixed?

  • Adding a hyperlink to a Text Box component no longer causes an error.
  • Adding an .xml RSS feed to a page no longer causes an error.
  • Students using iOS devices can view task descriptions in Chrome as expected.
  • Lessons in the planner are displayed correctly even when the lesson is very short.
  • Exporting form reports to Excel no longer times out.
  • The report screen for class test and assignment pages no longer has two 'Delete selected submissions' buttons and two 'Export All Responses to CSV' buttons.
  • Deleted marked tasks are now removed from 'Marks and Feedback' section as expected.
  • Tasks can no longer be set to non-students by expanding a group.
  • Adding a formula to the task description no longer causes errors with the task.
  • Embedding an iframe with a formula component no longer causes errors with pages.
  • For schools using the Melody theme, the theme is applied as expected in all sections.
  • For schools with the Melody theme, logos of all aspect ratios are now displayed correctly.
  • For schools with SIMS integration, 'Parents of...' groups are no longer displayed using SIMS API Keyring when the parent portal is disabled.
  • Firefly now uses the production version of React.

What's new?

  • When setting a task, the latest assessment type selected is remembered so teachers don't have to select it each time.
  • Teachers can now bulk archive their tasks using the due date.
  • Teachers can now archive multiple individually selected tasks at the same time using tick boxes.
  • In the teachers' task list, archived tasks now have the word [Archive] at the beginning of the title.
  • Teachers can sort the task list by due date ascending, due date descending, set date ascending and set date descending. Their most recent sorting selection is remembered when the teacher leaves the task list page.
  • Teachers can filter their tasks list by when they are due, including today, tomorrow, in the next 7 days and in the next 14 days.
  • All emails sent from Firefly have been given a new look and feel.

What's new?

  • Teachers can now select how they're going to assess the task at the task setting stage. This means that when they go to assess a task on the task details screen, only the relevant fields are displayed when pressing the 'Add Mark, Grade or Feedback' button.

What have we fixed?

  • After pressing the 'Save marks and feedback' button in class test submissions, teachers are taken back to the report screen.
  • When setting a task, if the user clicks on the 'Save Changes' button more than once it no longer creates multiple copies of the link to the attached page. 
  • Attaching a file in a task from Google Drive, Office 365 or Annotations no longer uploads it for all students in that task group.

  • For schools with iSAMS integration, parents not in the 'Home' location are no longer missing in Firefly.
  • For schools with SchoolBase integration, the planner now shows the class name in lessons as expected.
  • For schools with DoubleFirst integration, all lessons are displayed on the timetable as expected.
  • Firefly now displays the correct task status in the student planner day view.
  • The cloud uploader is now working as expected.

  • We have remove the 'Add Redirect' option from the section home pages as it's not possible to make the home page of a section into a redirect to somewhere else.
  • The "Next Week" button is displayed on all teacher's timetables as expected.

What's new?

  • In the form reports, page editors can send a reminder to everybody in the list who hasn't completed the form.
  • In the forms reports, page editors can send a reminder to selected people to complete a form.
  • Users can now see at a glance which recommended bookmarks in their bookmarks section are forms that need to be completed.
  • Page editors can now clear all recommendations from forms in one click.

What have we fixed?

  • For schools with SIMS integration, the correct home address is now displayed for parents with a different billing address.
  • For schools with a local installation, we're no longer including users disabled in the AD in groups.
  • We have fixed an issue that was causing repeated jobs to be marked as failed by the scheduler. This prevented the job from repeating again causing some emails not to be sent.
  • Deleted groups no longer remain on the permissions of sections or pages.
  • Empty white boxes no longer appear when editing the dashboard.
  • We have changed the warning message in assignment pages from 'Set Page as a New Task' to 'Copy Page to Task Description’.
  • Teachers are now able to edit feedback they have saved for a task.
  • Teachers are now able to successfully copy pages and tasks with rich resources.
  • The due date in personal tasks are now appearing as selected by the student.

What's new?

  • For schools with a cloud installation, teachers and students can now annotate files on Firefly and easily send the annotated file as feedback or response to a task.
  • In the form reports, page editors can now view both people who have and haven't submitted a completed form.
  • In the form reports, page editors can now filter the list of people who have and haven't submitted a completed form by:
    • groups/individuals the form was recommended to
    • when the form was recommended to them
    • whether or not they have responded to the form
  • In the form reports, page editors can now export a .csv list of those people who have and haven't completed the form.
  • Recipients of forms now receive an email telling them that they have a form to fill in, that contains a link to the form.

What have we fixed?

  • For schools with SIMS integration, parent contact details are now displayed even if the house number is not entered.
  • For schools with Schoolbase integration, parents can now login as expected when multiple email addresses have been included in the Schoolbase email field.

What's new?

  • Teachers are now able to download all the files students have submitted as answers to questions using the "Download all student files" feature in the task overview.
  • Students can now submit answers to tasks questions only once.

What have we fixed?

  • When printing a page in full-screen mode only the content is now printed.
  • Clicking on the 'View all Marks and Feedback' link now takes the user to a list of marks and feedback as expected.
  • All links are displaying correctly in the navigation drop-down.
  • We have added more space between the different behaviour items in the student profile screen.

What have we fixed?

  • When two students with the same name are assigned the same task, we now add the students' GUID to the end of the folder name when the teacher downloads all files. This avoids an error being thrown.
  • In the File List, sorting options are now being applied to both the folders and the files within the folder as expected.
  • The 'Discard New Task' pop up is now behaving as expected in small screen sizes.
  • Students are now able to upload files via a browser in all iOS devices as expected.

What's new?

  • We now synch the OneNote description fields with the task in Firefly.
  • We have changed the copy of the 'Set Page as a New Task' button to 'Copy Page to Task Description’. We hope this change will make the workflow more explicit to teachers.
  • We have improved the design of the Location Picker to make it easier to find and select pages when there are many levels in the navigation.

What have we fixed?

  • Teachers with the relevant permissions are now able to view other teachers tasks in Firefly 6.

What's new?

  • We now resize profile pictures before uploading via cloud uploader. This means pictures take shorter time to upload and saves storage space.
  • Links included in Firefly messages are now clickable.
  • When a teacher is entering marks, the most recent 'out of' mark now transfers to all students by default, no matter in which order the marking is done.
  • In the 'set a task' workflow, we have changed the label 'recipients' to 'students' to make it clear that tasks can only be set to students.
  • In the 'add complete task' workflow, we have changed the label 'recipients' to 'students' and removed 'Show recipients who received this task'; as this option is not relevant for completed tasks that won't be sent to students.
  • For schools with Synergetic integration, we have added a new variable that ensures that students on the payroll are not given teacher permission in Firefly. The new variable is an imparam: {{staff_blocked_constituencies}}

What's new?

  • This release includes our new Cloud Uploader. The new Cloud Uploader updates automatically when a new version is available so schools will no longer need to manually update their Cloud Uploader after every release. 
  • Students are now given options for where to go next after creating a personal task.

What have we fixed?

  • For school with SIMS integration, we're now able to ignore the 'Award Given' field in relation to achievements. This ensures all achievements are displayed in the student profile.
  • For schools with iSAMS integration, we have made a change in the way we pull attendance from the MIS to ensure that is display accurately in the whole week view.
  • For schools using Storybook, we have adjusted the link colours when a style is applied. This change will ensure that the text has good contrast against coloured backgrounds.

What's new?

  • In the blog post feed on the blog's homepage, we now always show the blog post's page creator as the author. This makes it consistent with the blog post page behaviour.
  • We now ignore the case of the names of the directories used for manual cloud upload of profile pictures.
  • Teachers can now recommend assignment pages to students, parents and other teachers.

What have we fixed?

  • We have fixed an issue that was causing the download of all submitted files to a zip fail.
  • We have fixed an issue in the Navigation Component that was causing the links to have the wrong colour when two navigation components were side by side.
  • We have fixed an issue that was stopping the background of some dashboard components from loading.
  • We have improved the loading times of pages in sites with a large tokens table.
  • When using the Safari browser, clicking 'Export to Excel' on a task page now downloads a .csv file as expected.
  • For schools with iSAMS integration, we now use standard user matching to support matching via email as well as username. Previously we were only matching on username which meant that attendance/behaviour required username to be populated.

What's new?

  • We have introduced a new "For all requests" option to the "Redirect to HTTPS" setting in the Control Panel. Selecting the "For all requests" option ensures that Firefly is only accessible via HTTPS and all HTTP links are re-direct to HTTPS. This means all links to recommended bookmarks are HTTPS only.
  • For schools with Schoolbase integration, the year group name prefix can now be edited in the config file.
  • Emails sent to notify when a form has been completed are now populated with the name of the person who completed the form. This makes the emails more readable and useful in all email clients.
  • For schools with Synergetic integration, we have included an option for using preferred teacher names instead of external names.
  • For schools with Synergetic integration, we are now using Community.DefaultEmailCode if available to determine which parent email field to source email addresses from.

What have we fixed?

  • We have fixed an issue that was stopping the all markbooks export from completing when it encounters a set that no longer exists in Firefly.
  • We have fixed an issue that was stopping page owners from receiving moderated comment notifications.
  • We have made some changes to improve performance when many users are saving pages at the same time.

  • For schools with iSAMS integration, we have fixed an issue that was preventing attendance being pulled through correctly for some students.
  • We are now displaying only behaviour events in the present and past weeks.
  • When there are no behaviour events in a week, we are now displaying a "No behaviour events this week" message instead of a list of behaviour event types.
